Raul is an internationally recognised award winning wine expert with regular contributions across TV, newspapers, magazines, events and radio.  Credits include Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, The Telegraph, Taste of London, BBC News, Harpers, The Guardian and Foodism to name just a few.  He trained as a sommelier in 2004 working on cruise ships before working at numerous Michelin star restaurants. Working with Michel Roux Jr and Gary Rhodes became a career highlight accumulating in Raul’s ambition of opening his own wine school. Wine Training School is now recognised as one of the leading wine training providers in the UK, offering internationally recognised WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) qualifications at the 5-star Corinthia Hotel in London.

Raul frequently trains staff from leading restaurants, hotels and brands including Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Pollen Street Social, Caprice Holdings and Laurent Perrier. Quirky, upbeat, and funny with a zero-pretentiousness approach to wine.  A unique presenting and training style which is a roaring success with viewers, listeners and over 10,000 Wine Training School students. For the third consecutive year, Raul can be seen judging (Head Judge - Hospitality) the Nestlé Professional Toque D’Or competition.

Wine pairing coupled with cooking is second nature to Raul. His recently released book ‘Wines & Recipes’, focusses in detail on the flavours, textures, weight and origin of the wines and food recipes to ensure an impeccable match.  Wines & Recipes was awarded the prestigious ‘Best in the World in the Wine Education’ category in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2021.

  Raul enjoys spending his spare time reading, swimming and playing the guitar.
